Can you help us raise public awareness of mental health? We’re looking for volunteers for ‘Change Together’, a project funded by Time to Change that aims to challenge the stigma attached to mental illness.
We’re looking for Change Makers and Change Champions. In exchange we can offer you training, travel and lunch expenses, work experience, references and lots of fun!
Interested? We’d love to hear from you. Please take a look at the project and role descriptions below or contact Bex Large for more details.
About the Project
The Change Together project is a partnership between Peter Bedford Housing Association (PBHA) and Volunteer Centre Hackney with PBHA as the lead partner. The ambitious targets include training and supporting 36 volunteers with mental health problems to hold conversations with 1200 members of the public from 1 March 2014 to 28 February 2015. Social contact will take place through a series of workshops, pop-up shops, tasters and exhibitions held in internal and external venues.
Volunteer Change Makers
We are looking for people who have lived experience of a mental health problem (either personally or through someone close to them) to become Change Makers. Our Volunteers chat to people about mental ill-health, and give them the facts and information to help them understand what it’s really like. These conversations help to break down the stigma and prejudice that are often held by members of the public.
Volunteer Change Champions
We are looking for people with lived experience of a mental health problem, who are willing both to chat to members of the public about mental health, and also to support other volunteers to do so. Champions will help the team plan and prepare for activities and events but most importantly, be part of our Steering Group who provide advice and guidance on where the Project should go next, let us know if we can make any improvements to what we do.
